Lowest Jobless Claims Since Pandemic Began and New Report Shows The American Rescue Plan Is Working

Americans more financially stable with support from Democrats’ American Rescue Plan, Reports Show

Today, the U.S. Labor Department announced that for the fifth straight week, the number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits fell to a new pandemic low. This new record low – 385,000 claims – is just the latest evidence that the American Rescue Plan is providing significant relief to the American people and getting workers back on the job.

Americans are finding that relief is making a big difference at home as well. A new analysis of Census Bureau surveys found that following the passage of COVID-19 relief legislation, Americans reporting frequent symptoms of depression and anxiety fell by 20%.

The study also found that for households with children, food shortages dropped by an astounding 41% and financial instability dropped by a whopping 43%. This news comes ahead of payments promised in the American Rescue Plan that mean most families will receive the child tax credit monthly to help make ends meet, instead of at the end of the year.

REMINDER: Not a single Republican in Congress voted for the American Rescue Plan.

DCCC Spokesperson Chris Taylor

“More people across the country are breathing a sigh of relief as America builds back better. With record low unemployment claims for the fifth week in a row, shots in arms, and Americans returning to work, it’s clear Democrats provided real, meaningful relief for the country. When House Republicans voted to deny the American people critical economic relief and doubled down on the politics of division, Democrats in Congress went to work to deliver for the American people.”
