‘MAGA Mike’ Beltran Is Having an Identity Crisis [Washington Post]

Beltran Scrubs His Own Trump Record As He Careens Towards Defeat

New reporting from the Washington Post exposed ‘MAGA Mike’ Beltran for quietly rewriting his own campaign website – attempting to rebrand himself as he flounders trying to unseat Kathy Castor in a district Republicans drew in their favor.

This comes as Trump’s unpopularity threatens to turn off independent and moderate voters… The president’s approval rating has hovered in the mid-30s.”

DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“Mike Beltran can’t distance himself from his record of extremism and cozying up to his national party bosses. From a war in Iran nobody asked for, to skyrocketing gas, grocery, and health care costs – Beltran owns every aspect of Republicans’ deeply unpopular agenda and will lose to Kathy Castor in November.”

READ THE RECEIPTS:

  • Why did Mike Beltran, a Republican trying to unseat Rep. Kathy Castor…first decide to run for public office?
  • Earlier this summer, his campaign website offered a clear answer: “Mike felt inspired by President Trump’s 2016 victory.” The former state lawmaker “stood with President Trump every step of the way,” it said, and is running for Congress to “stand with President Trump to finish making America great again.”
  • Ahead of the general election, that section of his website…[now] says, Beltran “felt called to public service” and is running to be a “champion for lower costs, lower taxes, and increased healthcare access.”
  • Images of Trump and mentions of “America First” have also been removed from his homepage.
  • “It’s easy to understand why those careening towards defeat are attempting to distance themselves from the President,” [Rep. Suzan] DelBene said in a statement. “Voters are angry at Republicans for making their lives worse and are ready — if not outright eager — to reject them in November.”
