Malliotakis Silent, Refuses to Condemn Washington Republicans’ Attack Against Active-Duty Congressman

Campaign Refuses to Comment After Repeated Requests from Local Reporters for Explanation

Leaders lead, and when given an opportunity to do the right thing, Nicole Malliotakis failed, again.

This week, the National Republican Congressional Committee, an organization supporting Malliotakis’ candidacy, launched cowardly and disgusting attacks against Congressman Max Rose hours after he activated with the National Guard. Malliotakis refused to condemn the attacks leveled against him, dodging multiple requests from local reporters to respond.

This was a clear opportunity for Malliotakis to lead, stand up to her party, and repudiate the worst kind of Washington politics, and she failed.

This isn’t the first time National Republicans have taken aim at Rep. Rose while he was deployed. In 2018, Dan Donovan’s campaign was forced to explain why they continued running campaign ads against then-candidate Rose when they knew he was legally unable to defend himself.

“The National Republican Congressional Committee leveled political attacks against Representative Rose, a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient, while he is serving on the frontlines of this unspeakable crisis,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “Nicole Malliotakis had the opportunity to stand up to her party and publicly repudiate the actions of the Washington Republicans propping up her campaign and failed to do so. It’s clear she is ill-equipped or unwilling to lead when it matters most. Thankfully, the people of South Brooklyn and Staten Island have a real leader in Max Rose.”
