Today, House Democrats passed the Right to Contraception Act to enshrine women’s and families’ right to access contraception into federal law – Nicole Malliotakis voted no. This legislation comes in response to the Supreme Court’s threat to revisit settled law like Griswold v. Connecticut, following the Republican-stacked Court’s decision to overturn 50 years of precedent and rip away the right for women to access reproductive health care.
As a reminder, Malliotakis has also:
-
Twice voted against the Woman’s Health and Protection Act, which would protect a woman’s right to abortion.
-
Voted against the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act, which would safeguard a woman’s right to travel to another state to receive an abortion if their state bans the medical procedure. This bill would stop states from putting a bounty on the heads of women, families and doctors who assist in obtaining the abortion.
-
Insisted Republicans weren’t trying to take the right to contraceptives away from the American people, and said it was a “cynical scare” tactic for Democrats to warn Americans about Republican efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade.
DCCC spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre:
“Malliotakis’ vote against protecting access to contraception shows that she thinks New Yorkers’ long-held rights are up for re-negotiation. Voters will hold Malliotakis accountable and will reject her this November to stop Republicans from implementing their goal of a nationwide abortion ban.”
