This morning, four-time indicted former president Donald Trump bragged about overturning Roe v. Wade and allowing states to implement draconian abortion bans.
“According to an unearthed audio recording, Republican Rep. Marc Molinaro would support a federal abortion ban at 17 weeks of pregnancy. Former President Donald Trump proposed a similar prohibition earlier this year…
“Seventeen weeks is shorter than the 24 weeks previously allowed by Roe v. Wade. It is also shorter than the 24 week window currently allowed in New York state. A New York Times analysis of Trump’s proposed 16-week abortion ban found such a limit would be unpopular with most voters.
“In Congress, Molinaro has been a foe of reproductive rights.”
Just like Trump, Molinaro boasts a dangerous record of restricting reproductive freedoms:
As one of his first votes in Congress, Molinaro voted to punish doctors who provide abortion care.
Molinaro voted for an extreme amendment to the defense bill, which would restrict reproductive health care nationally for armed service members and their families.
Molinaro voted to block the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify Roe protections nationwide and prevent states from banning abortion.
And of course, Molinaro was the first vulnerable New York Republican to support extremist Speaker Mike Johnson – who has co-sponsored a national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or to save a woman’s life that would also in practice prohibit IVF and common forms of birth control, and has pushed for 10 years of hard labor from doctors for providing abortion care.
DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
“Marc Molinaro supports a national abortion ban just like his endorsed pick for president, Donald Trump. Molinaro is propping up Trump’s dangerous efforts to restrict abortion rights nationwide.”
