With only two days left before a MAGA manufactured shutdown, María Elvira Salazar ignored calls to keep the government running and instead voted for a dangerous bill last night that attacked women’s reproductive freedom and slashed nutrition assistance working families depend on.
In addition to massive cuts to food assistance programs and a disgusting effort to discriminate against LGBTQ+ Americans, the centerpiece of the legislation is new nationwide restriction on the safe, legal abortion medication mifepristone.
Instead of working in a bipartisan way to invest in America and avert a devastating shutdown, Salazar decided to join her extreme Republican colleagues and restrict access to reproductive care nationwide.
REMINDER: María Elvira Salazar applauded the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which she said “gives power back to the states and their voters.” If Salazar is committed to making reproductive healthcare a state’s rights issue, then why did she vote to restrict abortion care at the federal level?
