On Friday, a Trump-appointed federal judge in Texas banned the safe, widely used abortion drug mifepristone, an unprecedented and dangerous measure that threatens women’s freedom to make decisions about their health care. Maria Elvira Salazar has yet to comment.
This decision is the latest step in the Republicans’ crusade to ban abortion in all 50 states. At the same time, this politically motivated move undermines the FDA’s ability to approve safe and effective medications going forward — including new drugs to treat cancer, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses.
In the wake of one of the greatest assaults on women’s freedoms since Roe was overturned in 2022, Maria Elvira Salazar has refused to condemn this dangerous decision — cowering in silence, knowing her extreme anti-choice position is out-of-touch with the American people. While Democrats in Congress have introduced a bill to protect women’s right to access medication like mifepristone, Salazar has so far refused to sign on in support.
