Mariannette Miller-Meeks Has a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week After Getting Caught Repeatedly Lying to Iowans

Miller-Meeks under scrutiny after disastrous week of back-to-back false fact checks and an editorial from her hometown paper calling out her “hyper-partisanship” and lies

Mariannette Miller-Meeks is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week as she comes under scrutiny across Southeast Iowa for her extremism and lies.

First, Miller-Meeks took heat after sharing a fake story from a satirical website that falsely claimed unvaccinated Iowa veterans would lose their health benefits. Miller-Meeks immediately caused confusion and concern from Iowa veterans, and “at least one veteran has reached out to KCRG-TV9 after hearing about the false claim, worried he was losing his benefits.” Her irresponsible spread of misinformation resulted in her hometown paper, the Ottumwa Courier, publishing a devastating editorial demanding that Miller-Meeks “do better” and “listen to the experts on COVID-19, and stick to the truth.”

Then, Quad-City Times reporting revealed Miller-Meeks’ personal financial disclosure form was “notably scarce.” The botched disclosure is raising transparency questions, as she appears to be skirting ethics rules required of every other member of Congress.

Finally, Miller-Meeks rounded out the week by getting caught in yet another lie — this time falsely saying her Democratic opponent wanted to abolish law enforcement, a distortion that was quickly disproven as “false.”

DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn:

“Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ credibility is diminishing by the day as southeastern Iowans continue to catch her in a web of lies and deceit. From spreading COVID-19 misinformation risking Iowans’ health, to failing to be transparent and hiding her personal finances, and then rounding out the week by lying about her opponent — it’s clear Miller-Meeks is nothing more than a self-serving politician who will say anything to help her electoral prospects, and does not deserve Iowans’ trust.”
