Marilinda Garcia Stands With Rick ‘Ponzi Scheme’ Perry

Marilinda Garcia has already proven she is not on the side of New Hampshire’s middle class families, and now Rick Perry, who called Social Security a “Ponzi scheme,” is making her agenda even more clear. In an email today, Garcia asked supporters to “stand with Rick Perry,” which is no surprise, given that Garcia is New Hampshire’s new Tea Party standard bearer and shares his agenda that is far outside New Hampshire’s mainstream.

“Texan Rick Perry has proved time and again that he is far outside the mainstream in New Hampshire, even calling seniors’ earned benefits from Social Security a ‘Ponzi scheme’ so it comes as no surprise that he’s endorsing Marilinda Garcia, who shares the same out-of-touch Tea Party agenda,” said Marc Brumer of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Whether it’s opposing equal pay and voting to make abortions illegal even in cases of rape and incest, or her determination to stack the deck in favor of wealthy special interests, Marilinda Garcia has proved her allegiance to the Tea Party, and the Koch Brothers, Ted Cruz, and now Rick Perry, are rewarding her for her loyalty.”

Garcia Opposes Paycheck Fairness, VAWA, Minimum Wage Increase. “In an interview with The Hill in March, just before her appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference, she put conservatism on display, expressing opposition to the Paycheck Fairness Act, the Violence Against Women Act, an increase in the minimum wage and any gun control efforts.” [The Hill, 6/9/14]

Garcia Voted to Ban Late Term Abortions, Without Exceptions for Rape, Incest or the Health of the Mother. In 2012, Garcia voted to override Governor John Lynch’s veto of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. The bill would make it a Class B felony for a doctor to perform an abortion, without exception for the health of the mother. It would further prohibit late term abortions be performed on victims of rape or incest. The bill was approved, 240 to 118. [HB1679, Vote #303, 6/27/12; Union Leader, 6/15/12]

USA Today: Garcia’s Views are “Tea Party Boilerplate.” “Those values include a libertarian-style devotion to shrinking government size and spending. Her social views are predictable conservative: anti-abortion and, on immigration, opposed to what she calls “amnesty.” Her immigration priority is border security. Tea-party boilerplate delivered, like everything else, with gentle charm.” [USA Today, 8/15/14]
