As the Pandemic Continues for Montanans, Maryland Matt Rosendale Has Pushed Predatory Short-Term Junk Plans, Campaigned on Cutting Protections for Montanans with Pre-existing Conditions and Rubber-Stamped Double-Digit Premiums
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact Montanans, including Maryland Matt Rosendale, Rosendale is so out of touch that he’s pushing junk plans that could bankrupt families and reject Montanans with pre-existing conditions.
As the state’s Auditor and Insurance Commissioner, Rosendale’s office has been pushing short-term insurance as a response to the pandemic since it began. These insurance plans have been referred to as “junk plans” and described by the Billings Gazette Editorial Board as being able to “reject Montanans who have pre-existing health conditions” while also not providing coverage for mental health services, outpatient prescription drugs, and maternity care.
According to a new report, these junk plans have forced consumers to pay out of pocket for their own lifesaving treatments, but Maryland Matt continues to list them as a viable and acceptable option for Montanans in need.
Did we mention that last cycle Rosendale accepted $16,000 from donors who own or operate short-term insurance plans?
And when Rosendale isn’t pushing junk plans that don’t cover pre-existing conditions and force Montanans to pay out of pocket, Rosendale is so out of touch that he is the ONLY Republican Congressional candidate of targeted races who is openly campaigning on repealing the ACA which would gut protections for 152,000 Montanans. If that isn’t bad enough, during Rosendale’s time as State Auditor he has been more than happy rubber-stamping health care premium increases of up to a 23% hike on Montana’s families.
Statement from DCCC Spokesperson Andy Orellana:
“Rosendale’s record of recklessness for Montanans’ health care shows just how out of touch he is with the needs of Montana families during this crisis. It’s clear Maryland Matt would rather suck up to insurance companies and Republicans in the Washington GOP swamp who are pushing junk insurance plans than focus on the issues that matter to Montanans.
