Rosendale Slops Up Corporate Campaign Support, While Ignoring Montana’s Farmers, Families and Ranchers
Just as Maryland Matt Rosendale gets bailed out by his friends at the D.C. dark money arm of the corporate GOP and gets himself a multi-million dollar lifeline, Rosendale unveils an economic plan that serves as a love-letter to his out of state corporate donors – while nearly completely forgetting the needs of farmers in Montana.
But that comes as no surprise to Montana farmers and ranchers, because they know Maryland Matt Rosendale won’t show up for them because he has never done it in the past. Literally.
Earlier this year, Maryland Matt Rosendale blew off an invitation to participate in a forum hosted by the Montana Farmers Union, citing supposed “scheduling conflicts,” while trying to reassure Montanans that he has “deep ties to the agricultural community.”
Montana Farmers Union President Walter Schweitzer said at the time that he was disappointed Rosendale wouldn’t be in attendance, “You would think that he would want to come and talk to rural and ag issues. Agriculture is our number one industry. It kind of surprises me that he would ignore us.”
Here is the Maryland developer and multimillionaire Matt Rosendale’s real record for Montana farmers:
- Matt Rosendale is a multimillionaire real estate developer, who moved to Montana from Maryland and immediately started buying up land – including a more than $2 million ranch and 300 acres to develop up to 700 units.
- Rosendale infamously claimed to then be a rancher despite not owning a single head of cattle.
- Rosendale repeatedly voted for pro-developer measures to ease land use rules that would hurt farmers and leave agriculture in Montana out in the cold to developers.
- And in 2014, Rosendale asserted that the minimum wage in Eastern Montana was $15 an hour– a grossly exaggerated claim and showing just how detached from our rural communities Rosendale really is. For what it’s worth, Montanans making a minimum wage got a raise this year to $8.65 an hour.
Statement from DCCC Spokesperson Andy Orellana:
“Maryland real estate developer and multi-millionaire Matt Rosendale claims ‘deep ties’ with Montana’s farmers and rural communities, huh? More like out of touch and out to lunch on the DC GOP corporate card for Maryland Matt.”
