Once again, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has made it abundantly clear that he and his caucus have no interest in taking the investigation into the fatal January 6th insurrection seriously.
From rejecting a bipartisan commission that included many of his demands, removing Rep. Liz Cheney from leadership for refusing to embrace Trump’s Big Lie, to now pulling a desperate political stunt of withdrawing his own nominees from the bipartisan January 6th commission, McCarthy’s meltdowns these last six months prove he has driven himself further down the path of extremism and demonstrated a total lack of “commitment to the Constitution.”
“Kevin McCarthy is gaslighting the American people because he’s afraid of them learning the truth — Washington Republicans’ embrace of the Big Lie is what led to a violent mob storming the Capitol in an attempt to overthrow our democracy,” said DCCC Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney. “Speaker Pelosi has time and time again demonstrated her commitment to bipartisanship and uncovering the truth, and McCarthy’s obstructionism won’t stop the select committee from finding the answers Americans deserve. McCarthy’s sham ‘investigation’ is nothing more than a distraction from the question he refuses to answer — what is he hiding from the American people?”
