McCarthy Offers No Change From Cantor’s Tea Party Priorities

On CBS’s Face The Nation, Bob Schieffer asked House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy how his leadership of the House will be different from defeated former Majority Leader Eric Cantor. In response, McCarthy blamed Washington’s dysfunction on anyone but House Republicans.

“Kevin McCarthy couldn’t say what will be different under his leadership, because you can change the names on the doors, but you can’t change the dysfunctional ideological agenda of this Republican Congress that shut down the government and blocks measures to strengthen the middle class – all while giving more tax breaks to their special interest backers,” said DCCC Chair Steve Israel. “Congress has never been so toxic, and Republicans need to start focusing on middle class priorities instead of their Tea Party base.”
