McCarthy Response to Kids Being Killed: “We can talk about new movies, we can talk about your lives… anything else.”

Disgusting, shameful, unbecoming. After three 9-year-old students and three adults were massacred in their Nashville school, the Republican House Speaker has refused to take action on the gun violence epidemic or even provide a comment on the recent mass shooting.

Instead, McCarthy:

• Has responded, “we can talk about new movies, we can talk about your lives… anything else.”

• Posed for pictures with tourists, but then walked away from reporters in silence.

• And dodged further questions, claiming he needs to see “all the facts” before considering any common sense legislation, and when asked what “facts” were needed, “McCarthy refused to answer and left through an exit.”

DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children under 18, six people were massacred in their school, and the American public overwhelmingly supports gun violence prevention legislation, yet the Republican Leader refuses to say anything and is stalling action. It tells you everything you need to know about where House Republicans’ priorities lie.”
