Meet the NRCC’s Top Recruit in FL-13: Tea Partier Mark Bircher
After many months of indecisive wavering, Rick Baker finally ruled out a run in Florida 13, leaving the National Republicans without a top tier recruit in Pinellas County. They are instead left with the incomparable Mark Bircher. Many things have been said about Mark Bircher, none of which are that he has any chance of winning.
Here are Bircher’s best hits:
- “He is also breathtakingly naive about politics.”
- “Asked if he is paying any of those campaign advisers, Jacqueline and Mark Bircher looked at one another. They didn’t think so, but neither was entirely sure.”
- “…not only would he want the Affordable Care Act repealed, but also federal programs like Medicare, Social Security, and more. It should be up to the states to fund such programs, he argues.”
- “Republican Mark Bircher is running, but at this point it’s likely the next Congressional District 13 representative will be chosen in the Democratic primary between former Gov. Charlie Crist and former Defense Department official Eric Lynn.”
“National Republicans spent months publicly wooing Rick Baker, who finally came to his senses and realized that even he couldn’t win in Pinellas County. Now National Republicans are stuck with a ‘breathtakingly naïve’ tea party candidate who wants to repeal Social Security and Medicare.” – DCCC Spokesman Jermaine House.
