MEMO: GOP RUNNING SCARED AS VOTERS BACK HOME INCREASINGLY GROW SOUR ON THEIR BROKEN PROMISES

DCCC MEMORANDUM

To: Interested Parties
From: Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee
Date: August 6, 2025
Subject: GOP RUNNING SCARED AS VOTERS BACK HOME INCREASINGLY GROW SOUR ON THEIR BROKEN PROMISES

Across the House battlefield, Republicans are running scared, hiding from their constituents and afraid to explain why they betrayed working families by voting for the Big, Ugly Law.

They’re scared for good reason. Poll after poll has continuously shown that the American people hate this GOP Tax Scam.

The Big, Ugly Law rips health care from millions of Americanstakes food away from children, people with disabilities, and veterans; and jacks up energy bills. Republicans even admitted that it includes a ‘backdoor for privatizing Social Security.’ All told, the GOP Tax Scam is one of the most regressive laws in decades, making everyday Americans pay for a massive billionaire tax break.

Yet, inexplicably, House Republican leadership has demanded their vulnerable members go home on a hopeless mission to try and sell this cruel, unpopular law that election experts have said will cause House Republicans to be ‘eaten alive’ for their support of it. In a leaked memo, Republican leaders bizarrely directed members to promote the Big, Ugly Law, but omitted any mention of hosting in-person town halls. One member didn’t get the hint. In Lincoln, Nebraska, Congressman Mike Flood faced a raucous crowd of boos and visceral anger over his support of the Big, Ugly Law this week when he hosted an in-person town hall.

REMINDER: Back in May, we predicted that this law will be THE defining issue of the midterms, dragging down vulnerable Republicans’ electoral chances.

In the few weeks since being sent home early for the summer, House Republicans have been inundated with a deluge of negative headlinesprotests at their district offices, and Letters to the Editor, sending one loud and clear message: Voters HATE the Big, Ugly Law and are outraged at House Republicans for passing it.

That’s not the only issue where Republicans are on the wrong side of voters.

Prices are rising on everything from food to health insurance to energy costsJob growth has crateredunemployment is up, and the only ‘accomplishment’ Republicans can claim credit for is the most unpopular bill in the 21st century. Instead of delivering on their promise of a so-called economic ‘golden age’, Republicans have left a trail of broken promises – and betrayed voters – behind them. It’s no wonder most Republicans are avoiding the American people altogether. Now, Trump and House Republicans realize they are poised to lose the majority in 2026 and are pursuing a last-ditch, desperate scheme to gerrymander the congressional map in Texas to rig the election in their favor.

BOTTOM LINE: The Big, Ugly Law is a political disaster. The sense of buyer’s remorse is real and growing daily. The more the American people learn about it, the more they hate it. House Democrats will continue to be on offense, showing up in Republican-held districts and hammering the contrast that House Republicans work for the billionaires, not the people. The American public is pissed and ready to vote Republicans out of the majority next year.
