Subject: HOUSE REPUBLICANS FAILURE TO AVERT HEALTH CARE CRISIS WILL COST THEM THE MAJORITY
Following orders from President Trump, Republicans in Congress have refused to address the health care crisis they created – launching a devastating assault on the safety and well-being of the American people.
This GOP-manufactured health care crisis will skyrocket costs for millions of hardworking families and decimate critical health infrastructure including medical research and vaccine availability, and threaten to shutter rural hospitals, nursing homes, and community health care centers. In addition to losing access to life-saving care, this fall, millions of additional hardworking Americans will receive a new sticker shock: double digit price hikes in health care premiums.
What’s worse is that Republicans are willing to shut down the government instead of taking action to address this health care crisis of their own making.
Vulnerable House Republicans allowing health care costs to soar for millions of Americans combined with their decision to skip town provides a clear contrast and sets up a messaging frame that can carry through to next November when Democrats re-take the majority.
Democrats Will Not Rubber Stamp DC Republicans’ Extreme Agenda
Instead of lifting a finger to help the American people, House Republicans are obsessed with pushing an agenda that is nothing short of a cornucopia of damage to Americans’ pocketbooks through an unraveling of the nation’s health care system.
By refusing to work with Democrats to address their health care crisis they are sending a message to the public that Republicans are more concerned about pleasing Donald Trump than working on behalf of the American people. In fact, Republicans are so afraid to address the crisis they created that they lobbied and convinced Donald Trump to chicken out (publicly) after agreeing to a meeting with Democratic leaders.
Holding Vulnerable Republicans Accountable
Showing the American people the damage House Republicans are doing can take many forms. Democrats win when we fight to stop the Republican-manufactured health care crisis. It’s essential Democrats keep the pressure on, and we are:
Make the Case for Change in November
After voting for the one of the most unpopular pieces of legislation in modern American history, Republicans launched an unprecedented attack on health care in service of their billionaire donors. House Democrats will continue to highlight that contrast from now until Election Day.
BOTTOM LINE: New polling across the House battlefield shows an overwhelming 72% of voters support extending the ACA tax credits, with widespread support among Independents (70%) and Republicans (59%). The American people desperately want the health care crisis fixed, and it’s crystal clear that Republicans will be blamed when they refuse to address the crisis they created. House Democrats are on offense as we approach the September 30th deadline – while Republicans hide. The American people expect results and only Democrats are fighting to stop the cuts and lower costs.
