Michelle Steel Advances Deficit-Busting Tax Scam 2.0

Just weeks after Michelle Steel and MAGA House Republicans held the nation’s economy hostage with the supposed purpose of reducing the federal deficit, late last night Steel advanced a series of irresponsible bills out of the House Ways and Means committee that would increase the federal deficit by more than a trillion dollars over the next decade.

The centerpiece of this latest MAGA tax scam prioritizes the wealthiest few and big corporations, including voting to provide an $11 billion tax break directly to Big Oil producers. Steel’s scheme would also kill thousands of clean energy jobs created through the Inflation Reduction Act.

Steel also voted to kill an amendment that would have provided meaningful tax relief to California families by bringing the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction back to its pre-2017 levels. Steel, who claims to care about the SALT tax burden, voted to keep this double taxation in place for California families.
