Steel’s Alignment with Johnson Comes As Republicans Fail to Reach Fundraising Capabilities Under Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy
Tonight, California Republican Michelle Steel is reaffirming her full allegiance to the far-right wing of the Republican party by hosting Speaker Mike Johnson for a high-dollar fundraiser in Newport Beach.
As Johnson’s “first concerted effort to back vulnerable California Republicans,” the fundraiser puts “rudderless” Steel further on the hook for the extremist Speaker’s MAGA agenda, including an anti-choice platform that would ban abortion nationwide and could outlaw IVF.
Coupled with his lack of fundraising and campaigning acumen, Johnson’s far-right record has so-called “moderate” Steel back under the microscope for attempting to hide her own anti-abortion record and serving as a delegate for Donald Trump while hiding from reporters on her endorsement.
