Michelle Steel and Young Kim Vote Against Protecting Marriage Equality

House Democrats vote to protect marriage equality, Steel and Kim vote against

Yesterday, House Democrats passed the Respect for Marriage Act to protect marriage equality, following the Supreme Court’s demonstrated willingness to throw away precedent and Justice Clarence Thomas’ threat to overturn Americans’ right to marry whomever they love.

Make no mistake: this vote shows the threat Michelle Steel and Young Kim pose to the freedoms so many have fought for.

This isn’t the first time Steel and Kim voted against protecting individual liberties and preventing discrimination. Last year, they voted against the Equality Act, legislation that would ban discrimination against people based on sexual orientation.

In May of this year, in an interview with the OC Register, both Steel and Kim refused to commit their support to the legality of same-sex marriage. Now, Kim and Steel have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they cannot be trusted to protect our rights.

DCCC spokesperson Maddy Mundy:
“Michelle Steel and Young Kim won’t stop at ripping away a woman’s right to make personal reproductive decisions. They want to rip away an individual’s right to marry whom they love. Steel and Kim’s dangerous, backwards views do not belong in Orange County.”
