Michelle Steel: The Village Voice for Corporate Executives

Recently Promoted To Chair of Orange County Supervisors, Steel Continues Her Long Reign of Prioritizing Corporate Executives and Her Donors

Last week, the Washington GOP’s handpicked candidate Michelle Steel was given the position of Chairwoman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors. As the chairperson, Steel will formally reside over public meetings and have the authority to decide how long the public can speak on a topic before the Board.

But as reported by the Voice of OC, Steel has a long and sordid history of attempting to silence the public for the benefit of corporate executives over the voices of Orange County voters. In 2017, Steel instituted a one-minute limit on public speakers – down from the usual three minutes – but let corporate executives speak more for longer than any county workers and housing advocates.

Also, as Chairwoman in 2017, Steel banned public commenters from asking questions of county supervisors or addressing supervisors by name unless they had express permission from the board…A judge later ruled that the policy most likely violated the U.S. Constitution.

“Michelle Steel’s career of working to elevate the voices of corporate executives over the voters of Orange County shows exactly what kind of priorities she would champion in Congress. She will serve corporate interests at the expense of the families in California 48th,” said DCCC Spokesperson Andy Orellana. “This comes as no surprise as it is the status quo for corrupt career politicians of her ilk.”
