Steel still facing heat for hypocritical response to oil spill that devastated her district
Orange County Republican Rep. Michelle Steel is still under pressure for her failure to hold her Big Oil donors accountable following the offshore drilling pipeline oil spill that poisoned beaches in her district. Instead, she confusingly demanded federal disaster assistance despite voting against it weeks before. And now by opposing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework and its millions of federal funding to upgrade our nation’s ports and waterways, Steel is showing once again she’s all talk and no action when it comes to getting things done for Orange County.
“Under pressure to react” to the oil spill devastating her district, Steel introduced a bill she claimed would address issues facing California ports — yet when given the chance to support a $17 billion investment in advancing port infrastructure and waterways, Steel voted against the bipartisan, historic infrastructure bill late last week.
“Michelle Steel is just another GOP hypocrite who sides with her extremist party bosses over Orange County residents,” said DCCC spokesperson Helen Kalla. “When given the opportunity to deliver critical investments in infrastructure and jobs to Orange County, Michelle Steel showed CA-48 voters she can’t be relied on to deliver.”
