Today, Rep. Michelle Steel voted against an amendment that would prohibit oil drilling leases off the coast of Southern California. Steel’s siding with Big Oil comes as no surprise – but siding with them after her own community brutally suffered from a spill, just over a year ago, is shameful.
This is not the first time Michelle Steel has sided with oil companies over public health and clean water.
Steel voted against a bill that would prevent oil companies from price gouging, despite Big Oil companies posting record profits off the backs of Americans paying high prices at the pump.
And Steel’s legislative record is fullofattempts to block clean water and air protections.
DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“Michelle Steel has shown time and again that she works for her donors and Big Oil, but not the constituents and communities she represents. Selling out your community for political power is disqualifying – voters will show Steel she’s better off lobbying than legislating when they vote her out in November 2024.”
