Yesterday, Rep. Michelle Steel voted in favor of House Republicans’ rule changes that would gut the Office of Congressional Ethics, which is intended to be a nonpartisan, independent body charged with reviewing allegations of misconduct against House lawmakers and staff.
This comes at a time when Michelle Steel’s own GOP colleagues, like George Santos and David Schweikert have been under investigation for misconduct and shady finance violations – begging the question: who is Michelle Steel trying to protect?
Reminder: As Orange County Supervisor, Steel was accused of improperly using taxpayer funds to “send out 16,000 public mailers for campaigning purposes that also benefited incumbent District Attorney Tony Rackauckas.” Also as Orange County Supervisor, Steel pushed a deal to allow a campaign donor to purchase Orange County public land for pennies on the dollar in order to increase his home value
DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“Michelle Steel is no stranger to corruption and rather than allow the Office of Congressional Ethics to continue its tradition of holding both parties accountable as a nonpartisan and independent body, Michelle Steel voted to politicize the body that ensures congressional members like herself face consequences when they fail to act ethically and in accordance with the law.”
