A recent article in the Orange County Register highlights how Michelle Steel’s past corruption is once again hurting Orange County families. In 2019 while serving on the County Board of Supervisors, Michelle Steel greenlit the sale of protected parkland in Newport Beach’s Back Bay Reserve to one of her wealthy campaign donors for pennies on the dollar, all while accepting thousands of dollars in campaign donations from the same individual.
Public protest eventually stopped the sale, but not before Steel’s wealthy friend fenced off the public land. Now, Steel’s donor is suing the county – demanding OC taxpayers foot the bill – as he attempts to annex public land he should have never had access to. Meanwhile, Steel remains silent about her role in creating this mess for taxpayers.
“Michelle Steel’s shameful silence in the face of a controversy she created is yet more evidence of her backwards priorities,” said DCCC spokesperson Marcus W. Robinson. “Whether in Orange County or in Washington, DC, Steel is looking out for special interests, not Orange County families.”
