Tom Barrett voted to gut Medicaid, raise health care costs, rip away food access – all while giving tax breaks to billionaires.
And Michiganders aren’t happy.
Barrett faced yet another protest for his cruel vote that puts billionaires before his constituents, and for avoiding questions from constituents who were “hoping to speak with him” and are “frustrated that the Congressman won’t hold in-person town halls.”
DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Tom Barrett is hiding from his constituents because he can’t defend his key vote to cut Medicaid, rip away health care, and raise costs for Michiganders while giving billionaires another tax cut.”

WLNS: Protestors rally against budget bill cuts
- Protestors took to Congressman Tom Barrett’s Lansing office, opposing the federal budget bill, which protestors say he supported.
- …dozens of people came out to reject changes to Medicaid and food assistance programs.
- Kathy Larson, a protestor, was one of the dozens of other people rallying outside of Congressman Tom Barrett’s office, hoping to speak with him about the current cuts.
- “He doesn’t do open town halls. He does, you know, phone calls, town halls. The first one, I couldn’t even get on,” said Larson.
- Larson says she has a daughter in a semi-independent living home that’s funded by Medicaid.
- “We have a disabled daughter who is 46 years old, and we don’t know how we’re going to care for her if she loses her funding,” said Larson. “It’s a 24-hour job to take care of her, and at our age now. It would be really difficult for us to do it at home.”
- During the protest, people brought jars of peanut butter and jelly to donate to local food banks in Lansing.
- Joanne Galloway, one of the volunteers, says they did this because they’re worried the budget will create more food insecurity.
- Galloway says she’s frustrated that the Congressman won’t hold in-person town halls.
- “Regularly, we’ve been coming down just to draw some attention to the fact that we want to talk to him,” said Galloway.
