Mike Bishop: Welcome to the #TrumpTicket

Bishop has said he’d support Trump as the nominee, can’t hide under his desk any longer

With Trump’s primary victory last night in Indiana, and Ted Cruz’s withdrawal from the presidential race, Congressman Mike Bishop now faces a nightmarish scenario this November: sharing the ticket with Donald Trump.

Mike Bishop has made no secret of his support for Trump:

  • In February, Mike Bishop told a reporter: “I can vote for that man if he is the GOP nominee,” proudly committing to supporting Trump for President.
  • Asked about the backlash from some of Trump’s most outrageous comments, Bishop called him “just a raw candidate,” and actually defended his comments as “refreshing.”

Despite this praise, Bishop refuses to endorse Trump – presumably because he fears the backlash from women (including Republican women), independents, millennials and moderates who all hold unfavorable views of Trump.

“Now that Donald Trump is the presumptive nominee, Mike Bishop should get the talking points ready for defending Trump and his dangerous views that insult women, trample on the Constitution and make America less safe,” said Sacha Haworth at the DCCC. “No amount of distancing and side-stepping can change the fact that Mike Bishop is on the Trump ticket and his party has paved the way for his nomination.”
