Mike Johnson Admits Big, Ugly Law is Most Unpopular Piece of Legislation Since 1990

The Big, Ugly Law is the defining issue of the midterms and it will cost Republicans the majority

This morning, Speaker Mike Johnson was asked to explain why his signature legislative ‘achievement’ – the Big, Ugly Law – is failing in the court of public opinion.
JOHN BERMAN, CNN: It’s among the most unpopular laws passed since 1990, less so than the Affordable Care Act, the Bank Bailout, and the Republican tax bill of 2017. Why so hard?

MIKE JOHNSON: I’m not surprised by these numbers at all.

Poll after poll after poll has shown that the Big, Ugly Law is wildly unpopular because it rips health care and food assistance away from hardworking people to give GOP billionaires a tax break. The so-called Republican moderates admitted their bill was a disaster for Medicaid and rural hospitals, but they voted for it anyway.

When pressed on the unpopular provisions of the bill, Johnson responded“I’m not buying that, polls can be manipulated.”

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Vulnerable House Republicans walked the plank to deliver Mike Johnson a ‘win’ with the Big, Ugly Law and it’s going to cost them their majority.”
