With increased pressure and dissent from rank-and-file House Republicans to bring back Congress, Mike Johnson dashed to the far-right Freedom Caucus, begging his most extreme Members for a lifeline.
Members of the far-right Freedom Caucus have made clear they are all-in on the health care crisis they created.
Former Freedom Caucus Chair Scott Perry co-authored an op-ed with other hardline Republicans, calling the effort to make Affordable Care Act tax credits permanent a “colossal mistake.” Congressman Andy Biggs went even further, introducing a bill to eliminate the Affordable Care Act entirely.
Meanwhile, Mike Johnson is losing the support of his rank-and-file members, who have called the GOP shutdown strategy “embarrassing,” and are privately – and PUBLICLY – begging Johnson to bring back the House and extend the ACA tax credits.
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“While MAGA Mike Johnson runs for cover to the far-right Freedom Caucus, he is dragging the so-called Republican moderates down with him.” |
