During an event with Republican Ryan Mackenzie, Speaker Mike Johnson laid out his and House Republicans’ pledge to take health care away from millions of Latinos through their “massive reform” of the Affordable Care Act.
“No Obamacare?” one attendee asked Johnson, referring to the law Democrats passed in 2010, also known as the Affordable Care Act.
“No Obamacare,” Johnson responded, rolling his eyes. “The ACA is so deeply ingrained, we need massive reform to make this work and we got a lot of ideas on how to do that.”
A recent analysis of Latino health care found:
-
More than 9 million Latinos, including 1.3 million children who would otherwise have remained uninsured, now have health insurance
-
More than 43 million Latinos with preexisting conditions are no longer able to be denied coverage
-
More than 2 million young Latinos are able to stay on their parents health insurance
DCCC Spokesperson José Muñoz:
“While Democrats have worked to cap the price of insulin, lower the prices of prescription medications, and expand affordable health care, Mike Johnson is making clear that if Republicans control the House next year they’d take health care away from millions of hardworking Latinos.”
