Mike Lawler and 15 of his fake moderate colleagues in the Republican Conference are out with yet another meaningless letter – this time begging the Senate to scale back aggressive cuts to Medicaid. Yet this comes just weeks after he voted to enact the largest cut to Medicaid in American history.
Lawler is hoping this letter will save him from backlash over voting to gut health care for millions of Americans, as the Senate considers lowering the provider tax on states — a move that would cause even more people to lose coverage.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates the Lawler-backed House-version of the GOP Tax Scam would result in 16 million people uninsured by gutting Medicaid and failing to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. In addition, New Yorkers will see their health insurance costs skyrocket by 38% and 11 rural hospitals across the state could close.
Reminder: After Mike Lawler promised voters he would not support any cuts to Medicaid (not even $1!), he voted to rip away Medicaid coverage from nearly 30,000 of his own constituents and falsely claimed he’s working to “strengthen” and “protect” the critical program.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Enough with the meaningless letters. Mike Lawler already voted for the largest cut to Medicaid in American history – and when the time comes, he will cave to his D.C. party bosses once again to give his billionaire donors a massive tax break.”
