Greater NY Hospital Association: Big, Ugly Bill “would devastate New York hospitals and their patients, employees and communities”
Mike Lawler shamelessly posed for the cameras this week while visiting a local medical clinic in Rockland County – but what he failed to mention is that just one month ago, he voted to slash nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid to fund tax breaks for billionaires, gutting hospital funding and potentially threatening the very clinics he’s now using as a backdrop for political gain.
New York health care leaders have repeatedly warned that the staggering losses — totaling $7 billion in cuts to New York hospitals every year — would be “unsustainable” and leave the state’s hospital system unrecognizable.
The steep hospital cuts in Lawler’s Big, Ugly Bill threatens funding for 75 hospitals across New York that are already in financial distress, and has already forced layoffs and cuts to vital health care programs in the Hudson Valley.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi: “Mike Lawler voted to gut hospital funding, then had the nerve to show up with a smile on his face at a clinic that could soon be forced to slash services because of his spineless betrayal. It’s shameful, it’s cowardly, and it’s exactly why Hudson Valley voters are ready to vote him out next November.”
