Mike Lawler Spews Blatant Lies About State Abortion Bans

Lawler calls abortion a distraction to hide from his own extreme anti-choice record

Mike Lawler spewed lies at a recent in-district event by denying that there are states which lack abortion exceptions for rape or incest, asking attendees to “show [him] the law.” This comment also comes on the heels of Lawler’s spokesperson blaming abortion rights advocates for trying to “distract voters.”

While Lawler continues to belittle Hudson Valley voters for advocating for abortion rights, the facts speak for themselves. In one of his first votes in Congress, Lawler voted to block consideration of the Women’s Health Protection Act. This critical bill would prevent states from passing extreme “full bans” on abortion, including bans without exceptions for rape or incest.

Despite what Lawler wants voters to believe, following the disastrous overturning of Roe v. Wade, eight states currently ban abortion without exceptions for rape or incest.

DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
“Mike Lawler is spewing lies and diminishing constituents’ concerns in order to cover up his own extreme anti-choice voting record. Hudson Valley voters deserve better than Lawler’s utter disregard for women’s rights.”
