Mike Lawler is threatening New York’s coastal communities to please Big Oil
Last night, former Big Oil lobbyist Mike Lawler voted against a bipartisan amendment that would block new oil and gas leasing in any tract located off the coast of New York.
Lawler’s decision to side with his friends in Big Oil comes at serious risk to his own state’s coastal communities, economy, and environment.
The bipartisan amendment, introduced by Rep. David Cicilline, would help protect New York’s shoreline from the threat of a major oil spill, which would be catastrophic for New York’s economy and environment.
Yet Lawler, who has received nearly $30,000 from the oil and gas industry, chose instead to use his power in Congress to put coastal New York at risk and vote against protecting his own community from the threat of Big Oil.
