Mike Lawler continues to attack critical, lifesaving services for everyday New Yorkers in order to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy and well-connected. After voting for the Big, Ugly Law that would rip health care away from 1.5 million New Yorkers and endanger thousands of lives, Lawler just voted to take away $1 billion in funds for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting.
For many parts of the country, especially rural communities, public broadcasting serves as the main source for emergency weather alerts to warn people about floods, fires and other natural disasters. It’s a critical system that millions of people depend on. Lawler’s vote to gut the funding will jeopardize stations’ ability to maintain these emergency alert systems and endanger public safety.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Mike Lawler continues to endanger the lives of his own constituents to pay for tax breaks benefitting his billionaire backers. Gutting low-income hospitals wasn’t enough for him, now he’s crippling emergency alert services too. Because of Lawler’s cruelty, New York lives will be endangered.”
