Mike Lawler Votes to Protect Trump’s Tariffs

Yesterday, House Republicans voted to continue Trump’s sweeping tariffs on Brazil which are partially responsible for coffee’s massive 20.9% price spike from this same time last year — the largest increase since the 1990s. In August alone, coffee prices rose 3.6%.

Vulnerable New York Republican Mike Lawler voted to protect the cost-spiking tariffs.

Following the vote, Congressman Don Bacon (one of only two Republicans to vote against tabling the resolution), said the quiet part out loud:

Now, POLITICO is reporting that GOP Leaders are scheming to block any congressional oversight and accountability into Trump’s sweeping tariffs — including on Mexico, Canada, Brazil, and other nations.

REMINDER: Recent polling suggests Trump’s sweeping tariffs are deeply unpopular with the American people, with just 38% of Americans approving and an overwhelming 62% of people disapproving – up from 59% in June.

DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Fake moderate Mike Lawler promised to lower costs, but he just voted to support the cost-spiking tariffs that are already making things worse for New Yorkers.”
