In a CNN story today, so-called moderate Mike Lawler tried to distance himself from Republican MAGA extremist Marjorie Taylor Greene by claiming he “disagreed with her nearly 20% of the time.” Despite his wordsmithing, this means that Lawler has caved to voting with Republican MAGA extremists like Marjorie Taylor Greene 81% of the time.
A few key examples where Mike Lawler has no problem agreeing with far-right Greene:
Lawler repeatedly said federally indicted George Santos should resign or be expelled from Congress, but, when given the opportunity to remove Santos from office, he voted to protect his lying colleague.
In Congress, Mike Lawler has voted for and backed several anti-abortion efforts that contradict his campaign promises, including prioritizing a vote to pass a GOP measure at the start of this Congress that would have punished doctors for providing reproductive care.
Lawler refused to condemn defeated former President Trump’s call for Congressional Republicans to “defund the DOJ and FBI.”
Lawler voted for the extreme NRA-endorsed pistol brace accessory rule that even other Republicans opted out of. This bill – which failed in the Senate – would make our communities less safe.
DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
“Mike Lawler claims he’s moderate to the Hudson Valley but caves to MAGA extremism in Washington. Despite his best efforts, Lawler can’t escape the truth of his extreme voting record.”
