Miller-Meeks and Nunn Must Explain Why They Support Tariffs Hurting Soybean Farmers

Soybean farmers in Iowa and across the country face a worsening crisis as reckless tariffs are causing soybean sales to plummet, prices to drop, and farming equipment and fertilizer prices to increase – and Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn are doing nothing to solve the problem, instead repeatedly voting to protect these tariffs.
China’s purchasing of U.S. soybeans has plummeted, as the administration prioritizes bailing out Argentina. All while Argentina floods the soybean market and screws American soybean farmers.Disruptions caused by tariffs could costIowa nearly $200 million if they drag on, and soybean prices are dropping across the board. The latest Iowa State data finds price per bushel is nearly two dollars below the estimated cost of production, while farmers’ input costs are rising due to the impact of tariffs on the price of farm equipment and fertilizer.

See what the American Soybean Association is saying:

Miller-Meeks and Nunn must answer:

  1. Why did you vote multiple times to PROTECT the tariffs making this crisis worse?
  2. The American Soybean Association is sounding the alarm about Washington’s refusal to prioritize American soybean farmers. What are you going to do to protect Iowa’s soybean farmers from this crisis?

DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn promised to lower costs, but instead they’re backing reckless tariffs that are harming soybean farmers, raising families’ costs, and causing chaos for Iowans. Miller-Meeks and Nunn must explain why they’re refusing to stand up for Iowa farmers. ”
