Miller-Meeks Skips Out on Day Job, Misses Vote to Aid First Responders

The Iowa legislature is in session for just a few months each year, but first term state Senator Mariannette Miller-Meeks couldn’t be bothered to show up to work yesterday.

While her statehouse colleagues were busy voting on several pieces of legislation — including a bill to aid first responders and better equip rural fire departments — perennial failed Congressional candidate Miller-Meeks apparently skipped out on her day job and jetted off to Washington, DC to campaign for a promotion.

Miller-Meeks’ refusal to show up for the job she has comes on the heels of recent criticism over her failure to advocate for underfunded public schools during this year’s legislative session and her decision to step down from chair of the powerful Human Resources Committee in order to “ spend more time running for Iowa Congressional District 2,” according to the Senate GOP Caucus.

“From insufficient education funding to high health care costs, there are critical issues that need to be addressed in the Iowa state legislature. When it comes time to decide whether Mariannette Miller-Meeks deserves a promotion, Iowans will remember that instead of doing the job she was elected to do, Miller-Meeks chose to spend her time in DC playing politics with the wealthy and well-connected,” said DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren.
