Despite warnings from moderate Republicans, Erik Paulsen stays silent
This morning, more than 30 former GOP lawmakers – including former Minnesota Rep. Vin Weber – published a “blistering” open letter to their fellow Republicans, decrying Donald Trump’s lack of “intelligence” and declaring his temperament unfit to be Commander in Chief.
This comes after 50 GOP national security experts – including former Homeland Security secretaries and a former World Bank president – signed a letter warning that Trump posed a “risk to short- and long-term national security.”
Additionally, Minnesota’s former longtime Republican governor, Arne Carlson, denounced Donald Trump in June, declaring that “Trump has taken campaigning to a new low” – referencing specifically Trump mocking a disabled reporter.
And yet – despite this long line of his fellow Republicans – Erik Paulsen refuses to denounce Donald Trump, only meekly offering that he won’t be voting for Hillary Clinton.
“Erik Paulsen’s silence speaks louder than words,” said Sacha Haworth of the DCCC. “Despite Minnesotan Republicans like Vin Weber and Arne Carlson taking a stand against a man who GOP national security experts have labeled unfit to serve, Erik Paulsen lacks the courage to denounce him publicly. Instead, Paulsen shamefully puts his party before the safety of our nation and his constituents.”
