9News Denver is blowing the whistle on a new dark money advertisement that’s misleading Coloradans about Gabe Evans’ vote on the Big Ugly Bill.
Last month, Evans cast the deciding vote to rip health care and food assistance away from hundreds of thousands of Coloradans to pay for tax cuts for billionaires – a deeply unpopular move in CO-08.
A recent survey shows a majority of registered voters in Evans’ district (63%) say they are “less likely” to vote for a candidate who voted to cut Medicaid. (Yikes!)
It’s no wonder why a “dark money” group is spending big to defend – and lie about – Evans’ disastrous vote.
DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“Gabe Evans sealed his own fate when he cast the deciding vote to jeopardize health care for nearly 1 in 3 of his own constituents to pay for tax cuts for billionaires. No amount of dark money ads is going to change the truth about Evans’ anti-Colorado agenda.”

9News Denver: Truth Test: Claims made in Gabe Evans ad on 9NEWS
-
A political ad promoting Republican Congressman Gabe Evans’ vote on recent tax legislation contains several misleading and overstated claims.
-
The ad is paid for by Securing American Greatness, a pro-Trump nonprofit that is a dark money political action committee.
- CLAIM: “Gabe Evans just voted for working family tax cuts that mean higher wages and lower taxes for working families.”
- VERDICT: Not exactly… As for overall income, analysis by the Congressional Budget Office… found that the House version of the bill would mean lower incomes for the lowest-income households.
- For those making, on average, $76,480 or less, those households would earn hundreds fewer dollars a year. The CBO attributes that to changes in Medicaid and SNAP food benefits.
- CLAIM: “Evans voted to cut taxes 15%. Giving working families $10,000 more every year.”
- VERDICT: This is a stretch.
- A normally conservative group called the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget says the claim is based on “fantasy growth assumptions.”
