MISSING IN ACTION: John Katko’s Values

Rep. John Katko stood up for his colleague Liz Cheney in January, but now won’t even say if he voted to cancel her
The shamelessness of Congressional Republicans has no limit, not even for supposed “moderate” Rep. John Katko.

This morning, Republicans agreed, by voice vote, to remove Liz Cheney from her leadership post in the House GOP over her comments telling the truth about the 2020 presidential election and the events that led to the January 6 insurrection in our nation’s capital.

Now, even John Katko, who previously defended Cheney, is running from reporters who want to know: which way did you vote?

Republicans talk up a big game on freedom of thought, liberty, and democracy, but their record doesn’t come close to matching their rhetoric. The truth is that Republicans canceled a leading voice in their party for being a more honest defender of democratic values than anyone else in the GOP.

Voters deserve to know where their representatives stand on honesty and integrity.

John Katko must answer TODAY whether he voted to shamelessly cancel his own colleague over her honesty about the lies and misinformation that led to violence in the Capitol.

In Katko’s own words, from January:

“It cannot be ignored that President Trump encouraged this insurrection – both on social media ahead of January 6th, and in his speech that day. By deliberately promoting baseless theories suggesting the election was somehow stolen, the president created a combustible environment of misinformation, disenfranchisement, and division. When this manifested in violent acts on January 6th, he refused to promptly and forcefully call it off, putting countless lives in danger.”

DCCC Spokesperson Abel Iraola

“Republicans like John Katko don’t get to talk about the importance of honesty, integrity and freedom of thought and then turn around and cancel one of their colleagues for doing just that. Now that they’ve succeeded in turning over their party to Trump loyalists who spread misinformation like wildfire, Katko must choose between telling his constituents how he voted or continuing to cower behind the anonymity of the voice vote.”
