Missourians Across the State Protest Republican Attempt to Rig Congressional Map

1,000+ protest near St. Louis, hundreds protest in Kansas City

Missourians are furious that Jefferson City Republicans are going along with their D.C. party bosses’ outrageous scheme to rig the 2026 election before a single vote is cast.

More than 1,000 Missourians marched near St. Louis, while hundreds gathered in Kansas City to condemn the Republican plan to crack Kansas City into multiple congressional districts – a blatant power grab that would dilute the will of voters in the state’s largest city.

On D.C. Republicans’ orders, Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe called a special legislative session to gerrymander the state’s congressional map late Friday, the afternoon before a holiday weekend – a telltale sign that Republicans know just how unpopular their scheme is.

DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“Republicans should be careful what they wish for. Missourians are making it clear they hate this blatant power grab that was cooked up by party bosses in D.C. Voters will hold Republicans up and down the ballot accountable – starting with the already vulnerable and deeply unpopular Ann Wagner.”

  • Steve Werner, of Kansas City, described the proposed redistricting map as “crazy stuff.”
  • “That’s their main goal — to rig it to where Democrats don’t have influence commensurate with their size,” he said.
  • Chris Waechter, a retired iron worker who lives in the 5th District, carried a sign that said, “No Redistricting In MO. No Gerrymandering in MO.”
  • “Fair representation has nothing to do with why they did this. It’s just the opposite.”
