Molinaro Votes to Cut Rail Safety Inspections Two Days After Pretending to Care About Rail Safety

Marc Molinaro shamelessly stands with extreme MAGA Republicans at the expense of rail safety

Vulnerable Republican Marc Molinaro voted with extreme MAGA Republicans to advance a bill that would send the U.S. economy closer to a “catastrophic” default scenario – and make a dangerous 22 percent cut to rail safety inspections.

In the wake of dangerous train derailments across the country, this extreme 22 percent cut would mean 7,000 fewer rail safety inspection days next year alone and over 30,000 fewer miles of track inspected annually.

What’s worse, two days before Molinaro voted for this dangerous bill, he held a town hall on rail safety in Binghamton where local leaders emphasized their concerns for rail safety and highlighted a 2018 train derailment in the region that could have been avoided had a routine inspection been conducted.

DCCC Spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre:
“It’s unconscionable that Marc Molinaro met with local leaders to discuss rail safety in New York, then turned his back on them two days later when he voted with extreme MAGA Republicans to push America closer to default and cut spending for rail safety inspections. Molinaro consistently votes for corporate profits over everyday people – and he cannot be trusted to keep upstate New Yorkers safe.”

REMINDER: Economists recently warned that the Republican plan would increase unemployment, decrease economic growth, increase the likelihood of a recession – and even spur agencies to downgrade the nation’s credit rating.
