Last night, Monica De La Cruz voted to slash funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that helps feed thousands of children across Texas’s 15th Congressional District. The Republican bill would cut nearly $300 billion from the program relied on by over 57,000 households (nearly 1 in 4) in De La Cruz’s district, over 60% of which have children.
Monica De La Cruz’s vote also threatens the livelihoods of Texas farmers who depend on SNAP purchases from places like farmers’ markets, school districts, and grocery stores.
Sitting on the House Agriculture Committee, Monica De La Cruz provided a critical vote for extremist House Republicans as they seek to pass their enormous tax breaks for the wealthy on the backs of everyday Texans.
DCCC Spokesperson Madison Andrus:
“While Monica De La Cruz pretends to care about working Texas families and farmers, the only people she’s really fighting for are the wealthy benefactors of Republican’s tax cuts for billionaires. This bill will rip food off the tables of her district’s most vulnerable children and take money directly out of farmers’ pockets – De La Cruz’s vote is a direct betrayal of the very people she vowed to protect and Texas’ 15th won’t forget it.”
