After announcing the closure of their health care clinic in Ottumwa, MercyOne announced additional rounds of layoffs in Des Moines “cit[ing] federal cuts” to Medicaid as a reason for the layoffs.
Des Moines Register: “The workforce reduction comes as Trinity Health, MercyOne’s parent company, is facing an annual revenue reduction of $1.5 billion from recent and future government funding policy changes as well as reductions to coverage, payment and access to Medicaid and Medicare being considered by the federal government, according to a statement from MercyOne.”
Zach Nunn voted for the largest cuts to Medicaid in history, which health care clinics are citing directly as the reason for their layoffs.
DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith: “Zach Nunn voted for the largest cuts to Medicaid in history – now, health care clinics are closing their doors and laying off Iowa workers while citing Nunn-backed cuts as the reason. Nunn completely failed Iowans.”
