MOTHER JONES: Alleged Abuser Max Miller Silent on Pushing Girl Down Staircase During Sworn Deposition

“If the incident never occurred, why are you afraid of answering the question?” asked his ex-wife’s lawyer

New reporting from Mother Jones reveals that during a sworn deposition earlier this week, alleged domestic abuser Max Miller repeatedly refused to answer questions about “whether he pushed a girl down a staircase during high school.”

Several years ago, three witnesses told
Politico that Miller pushed a teenage girl down a flight of stairs in his family home after she resisted his attempts to touch her. “Everybody knew about it,” one classmate said. “It’s right in line with kind of who he was.”

It was the first incident in a long line of abuse allegations against Miller. Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno, has accused him of assaulting her multiple times and being violent towards their daughter, and his ex-girlfriend has accused him of being abusive.

Earlier this year, the woman Miller allegedly pushed down the stairs said that while the event “happened 20 years ago,” it remains “one of the more traumatic nights of [her] life.”

Read an excerpt from the deposition below:

Moreno’s lawyer: Isn’t it true there was an incident in high school where you pushed someone down the stairs —

Miller’s lawyer: Objection.

Moreno’s lawyer: Yes or no?

Miller’s lawyer: Don’t answer that.

Moreno’s lawyer: You’re instructing him not to answer?

Miller’s lawyer: I am instructing him not to answer that.
