MR. GRINCH: Rep. Scott Perry Votes Against Economy, Medicare, Suicide Prevention, and Childrens’ Health Initiatives

Rep. Scott Perry just gambled with Pennsylvanians’ Medicare and the American economy — and voted against broadly bipartisan bills to fund suicide prevention, protect children with birth defects and developmental disorders, and address the opioid crisis.

Why?

According to Moody’s Analytics and the Bipartisan Policy Center, Perry’s dangerous and reckless “NO” vote on a framework to raise the debt limit could have immediate and urgent consequences, including:

  • Billions of dollars in impending Medicare cuts to hospitals, doctors, and other providers at the start of the year
  • Costing 6 million jobs
  • Surging unemployment to 9 percent
  • Delaying earned benefits like Social Security and Medicare
  • Jeopardizing our military servicemembers’ paychecks
  • Threatening the economic progress President Biden and House Democrats have made in pandemic recovery

But Perry didn’t stop with that irresponsible vote:

  • Perry was one of just 20 members to vote against funding to protect children suffering from birth defects and developmental disorders
  • Perry was one of just 36 members to vote against funding and programming to prevent suicide and improve mental health
  • Perry was one of just 15 members to vote against combating the opioid crisis by helping law enforcement monitor “pharmacy shopping”
  • Perry was one of just 60 members to vote against addressing supply chain issues and helping reduce America’s longstanding trade imbalance with other nations, including China

Perry was the only member of the Pennsylvania delegation to vote against these hugely bipartisan measures.

DCCC Spokesperson James Singer

“We don’t know who Scott Perry is working for, but it sure as hell isn’t Pennsylvanians. Crashing our economy, cutting Medicare, opposing measures to address the supply chain crisis, prevent suicide, and help children — who votes like that?”
