Lacore will flip SC-01 blue and help take back the House majority
Today, the DCCC announced that Nancy Lacore has been added to the committee’s highly competitive ‘Red to Blue’ program, signaling that the DCCC is invested in providing Nancy, a top-tier candidate, with the support needed to continue building a winning campaign as she runs for SC-01.
“As a helicopter pilot, three star admiral, and Chief of Navy Reserve, service runs deep for Nancy Lacore. She stepped up to serve our country and defend American values – and now, she’s stepping up for South Carolina families. Nancy will work to lower the cost of living and protect the Lowcountry’s coast. While politicians like Jenny Costa Honeycutt play games and serve the insiders only, Nancy will stand up to anyone to do what’s right for the Lowcountry,” said DCCC Chair Rep. Suzan DelBene.
Nancy Lacore served our nation for 35 years in the Navy, beginning as a helicopter pilot and culminating as a three star admiral and the Chief of Navy Reserve where she led more than 60,000 sailors. Twice deployed as she raised her six children, Nancy is now running for Congress to bring the same common-sense leadership and integrity she learned in the Navy to clean up Washington. Nancy will do what it takes to enforce the rule of law and take on corrupt politicians, get costs down for families, protect South Carolina’s coast, and stand up to both parties whenever they put politics ahead of the Lowcountry. In this open seat vacated by Nancy Mace that Democrats flipped in 2018, Nancy is building a strong bipartisan coalition rooted in her commitment to country and service to win this race.
South Carolina’s First District is an open seat race – and just like in 2018, this district is primed to flip. Recent polling finds this race neck-and-neck and multiple nonpartisan race raters have moved this district in Democrats’ direction – and with Nancy’s career of service, she is a strong fit for this independent-minded, military-heavy district hugging the state’s critical coastline which is under attack from Republicans. The rapidly growing current district is home to a coalition of voters that has historically swung towards Democrats: nearly one-fifth of the district’s voting-age population is Black and this is the most college educated congressional district in the Palmetto state.
Even under Republicans’ 2022 redraw of the district that Democrat Joe Cunningham won, congressional Democrats still would have come within 1 point of winning SC-01 under the new lines in 2018. This year, Nancy will flip this seat.
