Despite his pledge to back Donald Trump as the nominee, Congressman John Katko has been scrambling as of late to distance himself from Trump.
But Katko’s effort took a major hit today when Greg Walden, the head of the National Republican Congressional Committee, endorsed Trump earlier today.
The head of the organization that is responsible for helping John Katko navigate this very difficult election environment has now hitched the Republican House effort to Donald J. Trump.
Remember that only a few months ago, Walden warned that Trump’s dangerous rhetoric “puts, certainly, competitive seats in jeopardy.” Similarly, the NRCC’s deputy chair warned that Trump “would be devastating to our attempts to grow our majority and would cost us seats.”
“Congressman John Katko can’t be happy that his own campaign committee is now firmly on Team Trump. No matter how much John Katko scrambles to distance himself, there is no escaping the fact that Katko pledged to back Trump as the nominee and will be sharing the ticket with Trump this November,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC.
